Re-constructed Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons Man x Brooks Brothers Supima Cotton Long-sleeved Shirt
Brooks Brothers Supima cotton long-sleeved dress shirt as customized by JUNYA WATANABE COMME des GARÇONS MAN for their Autumn — Winter 2008 season Collection.
The shirt was crafted by re-working an existing Brooks Brothers dress shirt originally sewn in the United States of the premium-grade long-staple Supima cotton fabric into a more informal slimmer-cut shirt with Gingham check yolk and sleeve inserts and accented details and chest pockets in contrasting lighter shade Supima cotton fabric.
The shirt features a button-down collar, as originally introduced by Brooks Brothers in 1896, with points buttoned down by buttons on the front of the shirt. The original yoke and back panels of the sleeves have been removed from the original shirt and same details made of lighter-weight Gingham check cotton fabric inserted back into place. A hook made of the same navy and white Gingham check fabric is attached to the back of the shirt just underneath the yoke.
A piece of contrasting white fabric is used to cover the seam where the collar of the original shirt would have been cut so as to make this component fit the re-worked cut of the shirt. As the original shirt was a much roomier fit (as a classic dress shirt would), the width of the collar and length of the collar points are slightly disproportionate in relation to the whole of the shirt, contributing towards the unique way, in which the shirt has been re-created by JUNYA WATANABE COMME des GARÇONS MAN.
Patch-type rectangular chest pockets and inserts into the lower part of the front of the sleeves are applied, all made of same-weight and texture Supima cotton fabric but in a contrasting lighter shade of blue. The chest pockets are reminiscent of utility pockets found on workwear rather than formal attire and one has what appears to be a compartment for a pen. The shirt features original Brooks Brothers-branded buttons throughout, however the chest pockets are fastened by means of slightly larger unsigned mother-of-pearl buttons.
The shirt carries dual branding — a JUNYA WATANABE COMME des GARÇONS MAN label alongside an original Brooks Brothers label, notating the size and fabric composition of the original shirt.
Features: Premium grade long-staple Supima cotton fabric, original Brooks Brothers buttons. Spare Brooks Brothers-stamped buttons are included.
Available in size: Large / Japanese size 4. Actual measurements are as follows: Armpit to armpit approx. 21 1/2 inches/55 cm, total length (shoulder seam to bottom) 30 inches/76 cm, shoulder (shoulder seam to shoulder seam) 17 inches/43 cm, inside sleeve 22 inches/56 cm, outside sleeve 27 1/2 inches/70 cm.
The shirt was customized in Japan using an existing Brooks Brothers shirt sewn in the US from Supima cotton.
